Rae Woodland papers

This collection comprises papers relating to the life and career of English soprano Rae Woodland, including correspondence, programmes, press reviews, photographs, lecture notes, writings and papers.
Rae Woodland
Rae Woodland, 1922-2013, opera and concert singer.
Woodland studied with Roy Henderson and made her debut at Sadlers Wells as Queen of the Night. She sang with the English Opera Group, and toured with the Group to Russia. She sang the role of Diana in the 'Olympians' for Arthur Bliss as well as the first performance of his 'Angels of the Mind'. She made many live broadcasts for the BBC, including regularly singing on 'Friday Night is Music Night'. After retiring from public performance, Woodland taught singing at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and at the Britten-Pears School in Snape Maltings. She regularly examined students at the Colleges as well as adjuducated at music festivals.
The papers were received from the estate of Rae Woodland in 2014.
