Further Information: Jack Phipps (General Administrator) wrote an introduction to this concert, as 'the first in a new series of concerts by major artists in folk and popular music'. He also wrote ' We are also delighted, and slightly stunned, at the enthusistic response we have received to our new venture. Such is the popularity of Carole King and the clamour for seats, that she has generously agreed to give not one but two concerts.' His note goes on to request that the audience for the first should leave 'as promptly as possible, to help us prepare for a second full house... at 11pm'.
