Photocopy of a programme for a Sunday Evening Meeting recital by Britten (piano) and Pears (tenor) in the Barn Theatre at Dartington Hall, near Totnes, Devon. Works by various composers were performed, including Britten Folk Song Arrangements Vol. 1 (Sall[e]y Gardens, Little Sir William, The Bonny Earl O'Moray), Folk Song Arrangements Vol. 2 (The King has gone a-Hunting, Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho), I Wonder as I Wander, and Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo, and the programme contains a transcription of the words to Tippett Boyhood's End (text by W.H. Hudson). There is a News of the Day sheet attached to the programme, giving information about previous and forthcoming recitals, as well as other Dartington-related news.
A handwritten note by Rosamund Strode states that Britten referred to this 'disasterous recital' in a letter to Imogen Holst soon after, and that the usual Michelangelo translations were included on the reverse of the programme (now lost).
