4 Sep 1946
Programme for Jean Cocteau's The Eagle has Two Heads at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, adapted by Ronald Duncan. The anthem / fanfare was composed by Britten, and the programme includes details of forthcoming plays at this theatre and other London theatres.
No date for the performance is given on the programme but this programme may be for the first performance of Britten's anthem on 4 Sep, and is certainly from the play's run at the Lyric Theatre in Sep 1946 because there is an advertisement on the back of the programme for The Rape of Lucretia at Sadlers Wells from 28 Aug 1946.
