Programme for the Fourth Annual Cheltenham Festival (1948) held between 28 June and 10 July at the Town Hall? in Cheltenham. On 4 July, Britten conducted the English Opera Group Chamber orchestra playing works by various composers. Britten The Beggar's Opera was performed by the English Opera Group on 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 July 1948, and Britten Albert Herring (also by the EOG) on 7 and 8 July 1948. The programme contains photographs of The Duchess of Gloucester (patron of the Cheltenham Festival), leading performers (including Pears ), conductors and composers (including Britten). There is also a forward by the Mayor of Cheltenham, programme notes on the pieces, a list of members of the English National Opera and the English Opera Group Chamber Orchestra, a description of an art exhibition held in conjunction with the Festival, a list of Festival Committee members and associates, and various commercial advertisements.
