Programme leaflet giving details of the events being staged during the festival including performances of The Beggar's Opera and Let's Make an Opera. Also performed was Water Music and Music of the Sea with Margaret Ritchie (soprano), Bruce Boyce (Bass Baritone) and Michal Hambourg (pianoforte). Britten and Pears performed a recital in the Jubilee Hall including a first performance of Old American Songs arranged by Aaron Copland. There was also a first public performance of a new Festival Work by Anthony Hopkins, a Mozart Programme, a recital of Chamber Music featuring William Primrose on the viola and an entertainment for the speaking voice and instruments of the poems of Dr Edith Sitwell. The Operatic Programme included excerpts from Mozart's Don Giovanni, Verdi's La Traviata and Britten's Peter Grimes sung by Joan Cross (soprano) and Peter Pears (tenor) and accompanied by Benjamin Britten at the pianoforte.
