Leaflet giving the programme of performances for the duration of the Festival including Britten's Albert Herring and Saint Nicolas. Other operas performed were a new Britten realisation of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Monteverdi's Il Combattimento di Tancredi E Clorinda and Handel's Jephtha (an Oratorio). There was a first performance of a new work by the composer Roberto Gerhard for the piano and orchestra with Mewton-Wood performing a solo, concerts of music by composers such as Mozart, Wagner, Bach, Holst and Purcell, and a concert to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Verd'i's death arranged by the Earl of Harewood. The Band of the Grenadier Guards, the Cambridge University Madrigal Society and the English Opera Group all appeared as did the Aldeburgh Festival Choir and Aldeburgh Festival Orchestra. Joy Boughton performed a new work by Benjamin Britten alongside the Cambridge Madrigal Society on the Meare at Thorpeness and the English Opera Group performed a recital of madrigals by the Elizabethan lutenist John Wilbye at nearby Brandeston Hall.
