Leaflet giving the programme of performances for the duration of the eighth Festival including Britten's opera, The Turn of the Screw and first performances of his Motet, New Prince, New Pomp and two new works (for recorders) performed during the Music on the Meare concert. Other first performances included Searle's Aubade for horn and strings which was specially written for the Festival, and Alexander Reid's play, Once upon a Rhyme which received its first stage performance in England here.
Other performances put on that year included a recital by Britten and Pears of Schubert's Song Cycle Die Schöne Müllerin and concerts given by The Amadeus Quartet, The Brain Wind Quintet and The Purcell Singers. There was also a Reading by William Plomer who performed a number of his satirical ballads and a performance by the Aldeburgh Players of the mediaeval mystery play, The Second Towneley Shepherd's Play.
