Leaflet providing the programme of performances, exhibitions and lectures for the twenty-seventh Festival. Included were first European performances of Britten's Three ballads from, and Songs and ensembles from Paul Bunyan, as well as performances of a number of his other works. The Wandsworth School Choir gave a concert of his work which included the pieces: Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard, The Golden Vanity and Children's Crusade and the Orchestral Concert given on 12 June included a performance of the Suite from The Prince of the Pagodas.
The English Opera Group gave the first performance of Thea Musgrave's The Voice of Ariadne and also performed new productions of Savitri and The Wedding Scholar to mark the centenary of Gustav Holst. Other first performances included Alwyn's Mirages: Song Cycle for baritone and piano, Nordheim's Doria for tenor and orchestra, and first UK performance of Bibalo's Piano Sonata.
The Composer's Choice concert programme was chosen by Wilfred Mellers and other concerts included work by Schumann, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Delius, Schubert and Grieg. Amongst the performers were the Gabrieli Quartet, the English Chamber Orchestra and the King's Singers.
Other events included A Theatre Crawl which included a performance of Carey's True Blue by the English Opera Group, a series of three late night concerts celebrating the music of Bach and Holst, and a performance by the Pupils of the Menuhin School. Showing at Aldeburgh Cinema were three films by Jean Cocteau, (Le Sang d'un Poète, La Belle et la Bête and Orphée).
Change in format from previous years; the programme was reduced in size and there was no map of the Festival locations. Booking details were provided plus information on Buses, Wheelchairs, the Festival Club, Maltings restaurant and Summer at The Maltings.
Printed on the back are the seating plans for the various venues and on the cover is a map of Suffolk.
