The Festival included the first British Production of Britten's operetta Paul Bunyan (performed by the English Music Theatre Company) and also the first performance of his Cantata: Phaedra. His Sacred and Profane: Eight Medieval Lyrics, Symphonic Cycle: Our Hunting Fathers, A Birthday Hansel and Two pieces for two pianos were also performed. There were also first performances of Alwyns's Quartet No. 2, Malcolm's String Quartet No. 2 and Nordheim's Doria.
Other events included a Song Recital by Kerstin Meyer, performances by the Gabrieli String Quartet and the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, and a range of Chamber, Choral and Orchestral Concerts. Also included was a series of concerts by the English Chamber Orchestra with a different conductor for each one, (Kubelik, Previn and Rostropovich).
Following the pilot scheme of Occasional Talks in 1975 a number of special student lectures were again arranged and held at the Jubilee Hall. Master Classes were also held by Mstislav Rostropovich for cello students and these were open to interested members of the public.
Booking information supplied along with details for Summer at the Maltings.
