Photographs of productions
1941-2004
This is an extensive collection of production photographs of Britten operas, staged by various groups or companies and including first performances. The collection includes photographs of productions from the UK and abroad. Photographs of the English Opera Group and the English Music Theatre Company are well represented and include production photographs as well as some photographs of members in rehearsal and of production staff.
The collection also includes production photographs of the ballet The Prince of Pagodas, and photographs of theatrical productions and stills from films featuring music by Britten.
The collection mainly consists of black and white photographs but there are some colour photographs.

Copyright rests with many different photographers or their administrators.
Some photographs are from Britten's and Pears's original collection, others have been received from many different sources. Photographs from the English Opera Group/English Music Theatre Company archive are included.
