Date derived fom Britten's diary and the date of the first performance on 14 Nov 1938.
Manuscript for percussion part in the hands of Britten, Peter Pears, and an unknown copyist. There is a sketch on page 13 for 'Ben was a 4"7 wop' which was originally part of the play but is not included in the incomplete full score [fair copy]. The score is divided into Introduction, On the frontier, Fanfare, Act III Interlude to scene III, and Journalists song. The score contains annotations, corrections, rehearsal marks and crossings out.
