Titled score in the hand of Imogen Holst with some annotations and corrections in pencil. The cover has a small caricature of a man's face and contains a programme note which reads: 'Programme Note. This short piece was inspired by the lines of Keat's unfinished Hyperion… "and lo, from all his limbs celestial". The end of one order of Gods has come - Saturn, Hyperion and all the other ancient Gods who ruled the world by might and terror, have to make way for the new order - Gods of Light, Youth, Beauty and Laughter. Apollo is called to be the new God of Beauty by Mnemosyne, old Goddess of Memory - he foresees his destiny and in one final mortal convulsion, throws off his old form and stands before us the dazzling Sun God, quivering with radiant vitality. This is the mood of the music - first of all static and chant like - then vigorous and heraldic - a short mood of thanksgiving like a chorale and then a short brilliant Coda. The final page contains a note which reads, 'Made in Canada'.
