Basil Coleman was the producer of Britten's two-act opera performed by students of the Britten-Pears School for Advanced Musical Studies. The libretto is by Myfanwy Piper after the short story by Henry James. The opera workshop ran from 17 May culminating in 2 performances at the 1984 Aldeburgh Festival on 8th and 16th June with 2 different casts. These photographs show cast members from both performances. Owen Wingrave was performed by James Meek then John Oakley-Tucker; Spencer Coyle by Gary Coward then Duncan Smith; Lechmere by Neill Archer then Robert Craig; Miss Wingrave by Marcia Swanston then Anne Todd; Miss Coyle by Helen Charnock then Deirdre Crowley; Mrs Julian by Louise Camens then Tracey Chadwell; Kate Julian by Jennifer Bolam then Ethna Robinson and General Sir Philip Wingrave by James Leatch then Martin Spencer. Includes one colour photograph.
