Programme leaflet providing the programme of performances, exhibitions, services, and events for the Thirty-fourth Aldeburgh Festival which ran from 12th to 28th June 1981. Performances of works by Britten included The Prodigal Son, Sinfonia da Requiem, String Quartet No. 1 in D. Op. 25, Variations on a theme of Frank Bridge. Peter Pears appeared as a reader in a concert of Organ Music and Poetry, as well as choosing the music for the ‘Late Night II’ concert. The festival featured the first performances of Alan Bush – Concertino Op.94, Malcolm Williamson – Song Cycle: Josip Broz Tito (possibly now known as ‘Tribute to a Hero’), George Benjamin – A Mind of Winter, for Soprano and small orchestra. Other highlights included the Orford String Quartet of Canada who were supported by the Canadian Aldeburgh Foundation, Jeptha by Handel conducted by Peter Aston, and Chetham’s Chamber Orchestra.

The booklet is formatted so that all the information, including the footnotes to the festival fits onto the two sides of the A3 sheet. In the folder there are two booking forms, and an erratum notice about the Programme Vouchers being £2 and not £2.50.
