Fair copy with date and place of composition and rehearsal marks. Britten has provided a list of contents and list of orchestration at the front. The title and author of the text is provided at the start of the first page of each movement and on page 2v a footnote relating to the soprano solo reads 'To be sung in as hard and nasal manner as possible'. Page 6v (Messalina movement) is annotated with the dates of Thomas Ravenscroft.
