1946
The Education Committee of the London County Council 'arranged for 80,000 children from secondary schools to see professionally produced plays.' This was the third production under this arrangement.
Oliver Goldsmith's She Stoops to Conquer was presented by The Children's Theatre Ltd. (under Glyndebourne Management). It played for six weeks in London, three weeks in Middlesex, one week each in Wolverhampton and Southport and then four weeks in Essex. The play was produced by John Allen and while the costumes are 18th century in style, the sets made to look like paintings were designed by Joseph Carl and now have a very 1940s 'look'. Basil Coleman appears in all five of these photographs.
