These photographs were taken on the return journey in Italy after the occasion of the first performance of Britten's opera The Turn of the Screw on 14 Sep 1954 at Teatro La Fenice, Venice. Coleman was the producer. With him in the photographs are Britten, Pears, Imogen Holst, Basil Douglas, Erwin and Sophie Stein, Jennifer Vyvyan, Olive Dyer, and George Behrend who did the driving. We see them sitting by a lake drinking coffee, in a garden with glasses of beer, sightseeing in Burano and sitting in the car having their documents checked by an official. The file includes the packet the photographs were contained in.
