Imogen Holst's friends Arthur Caton (1904-1997) and Kate Butters (1899-2003) moved into Church House, opposite Thaxted Church, in 1932. Imogen Holst frequently stayed at Church House with them.

Holst gave Caton many books inscribing them to him. These remained in Church House after his death.
This collection also includes books given to both Caton and Butters, as well as other items belonging to Caton including letters from Holst.
The collection also includes books which belonged to Imogen Holst and her mother Isobel Holst that were left at Church House.
