1936-1937
Seven issues of the paper produced by the Group Theatre in order to inform about and report on the Group's activities. These are believed to be the only issues printed.
Each issue, of between 3 and 6 pages, contains reports and announcements about Group Theatre productions, performances, meetings, lectures, classes, study courses, and other activities, as well as articles by writers, artists and musicians on matters relating to the theatre.
The following articles are printed in the issues indicated;
No. 1, Jun 1936: 'Selling the Group Theatre' by W.H. Auden, 'Valeska Gert, dancer?' by Rupert Doone and reviews by G.B. of two new plays 'Waiting for lefty' by Clifford Odets (Unity Theatre) and 'Stay down Miner' by Montagu Slater (Left Theatre).
No. 2, Aug 1936: 'Symphonic Ballets' by Rupert Doone, 'Film Group' by Basil Wright detailing the proposed activities of this group, extract from The Agamemnon of Aeschycus by Louis MacNeice and 'The Surrealist Exhibition' review of an exhibition at the Burlington Galleries by R.M. [Robert Medley].
No. 3, Sep 1936: further extract from The Agamemnon with comments by A.W. and 'Chorus and audience, notes on a new form' by R.S.
No. 4, Oct 1936: 'The production of Agamemnon' by Rupert Doone, with a further extract 'the last chorus'.
No. 5, Nov 1936: 'The Agamemnon' by Peter Burra, 'A modern use of masks, an apologia' anon. and 'Speech from a play' by R.S.
No. 6, Dec 1936: 'Retrospect and prospect' a report on the activities of the first four years of the Group anon., 'Pantomime today' anon., 'Extracts from a dialogue on the necessity for an active tradition and experiment' spoken by Louis MacNeice and Rupert Doone at the Group Theatre Rooms on 22 Nov, 'The Ascent of F6' anon. and extract from the new version of Peer Gynt by Randall Swingler.
No. 7, Jan 1937: 'A Parable' forming the conclusion of the dialogue spoken between Louis MacNeice and Rupert Doone at the Group Theatre Rooms and 'Final Chorus' from a play by Louis MacNeice.
