DescriptionProgramme for the inaugural concert at The Maltings Concert Hall which was performed in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Gives the programme order on the front and the words accompanying Britten's The Building of the House and Dryden's Ode for St. Cecilia's Day on the back.
The concert included the first performance of Benjamin Britten's overture The Building of the House. Britten said that the work 'was certainly inspired by the excitement of the planning and building - and the haste!'. The programme is signed by the three artistic directors of the Aldeburgh Festival: Britten, Peter Pears and Imogen Holst.
