This English Opera Group production (presented by the Royal Opera House Covent Garden Ltd) opened at Snape Maltings Concert Hall on 24th August, 1974 with two performances as part of the summer 'Music at the Maltings' series.
The cast was: Lady Billows, Pauline Tinsley; Florence Pike, her housekeeper, Enid Hartle; Miss Wordsworth head teacher at the School, Norma Burrowes (24 Aug), Teresa Cahill (26 Aug); Mr Gedge the Vicar, John Barrow; Mr Upfold, the Mayor, Thomas Edmonds; Superintendant Budd, Michael Follis; Sid the Butcher's assistant, Thomas Allen; Albert Herring from the greengrocer's, Anthony Rolfe-Johnson; Nancy from the bakery, Kathleen Smales; Mrs Herring, Albert's mother, Noreen Berry (24 Aug), Anne Collins (26 Aug); the village children Emmie, Judith Rees; Cis, Janice Hooper-Roe and Harry, Philip Whitrow.
Apart from Lady Billows' costumes, which were designed by Alan Barlow, the costumes were based on Hans Schneider's designs for the original production
