December 1951
Photograph of the whole ship's company expecting to engage with the enemy after delay by poor visibility. Standing centre and a shade forward of the officers ranged along the quarter-deck, Captain Vere (Peter Pears) sees through his telescope a French vessel "...New rigged. Three miles off." First left in front row of the officers beside him is the Sailing Master, Ratcliffe, (Geraint Evans), First Lieutenant Redburn (Hervey Alan) and on Vere's left, Second Lieutenant Flint (Michael Langdon). The men below, on the main deck, chorus "This is our moment/ The moment we've been waiting for/ These long weeks."
