This performance was part of 'The Brown Symposium' 20-22 Feb 1985, entitled 'Benjamin Britten and the Ceremony of Innocence'. A series of lectures by Dr Donald Mitchell, Dr Philip Brett, Eric Crozier, Nancy Evans and Dr John Evans were interspersed with this performance of Curlew River and 4 other concerts. In this performance The Madwoman was Michael Sells, The Ferryman Tom Haygood, The Traveller Charles H. Hammett, The Spirit of the Boy Matthew Dupuy and The Abbott David McShane. The Chorus of pilgrims was: John Ash, George Brightwell, Joe Dowell, Bob Jackson, Gary Richter, Kenny Sheppard, Sam Smith and Robert Soulen. The instrumentalists were Margaret Moffatt (flute), Alfred Garza (horn), Karen Griebling Long (viola), Judith O'Brien (double bass), Delaine Fedson (harp), James Renier (percussion) and William Reber (chamber organ), who was also the Musical Coordinator. The costume designer was Gaye Bowen and the mask designs were by Patrick Veerkamp and students in the Advanced Design Class.
