The performances were in Snape Maltings Concert Hall on 12th and 19th June, during the 1981 Aldeburgh Festival. The cast, drawn from the English Music Theatre, was as follows:- The Tempter (The Abbot) Kenneth Bowen; The Father Thomas Hemsley; The Elder Son William Shimell; The Younger Son Bernard Dickerson: Chorus of Servants, Parasites and Beggars Philip Curtis, Geoffrey Dolton, Alasdair Elliott, Stuart Gardner, Patrick McCarthy, John Milne, John Morgan, Michael Neill: Young Servants and Distant Voices Stephen Brierly, David Cremer, Richard Eveleigh, Michael Hollands, Tom Squibb, Andrew Berkeley. The instrumentalists were: Julian Coward (flute), Graham Whiting (trumpet), James Brown (horn), Levine Andrade (viola) Robin McGee (double bass) Michael Jeffries (harp) Anne Collis (percussion) Steuart Bedford (organ).
